A balanced diet consists of two-thirds nourishing foods, which help build tissue, and one-third cleansing foods, which inhibit phlegm growth and excess tissue formation.

According to Ayurveda, nutrition is a “great medicine”. A healthy, balanced diet is the foundation of health, energy and happiness for both mind and body.

The food you eat should be palatable to you. Even so, it must be pleasing to all your senses. Make gradual changes in your diet by reducing unhealthy foods and replacing them with healthy and nutritious foods. With practice, you will find the diet that best suits your taste and your Pakriti.

A balanced diet consists of two-thirds nourishing foods, which help build tissue, and one-third cleansing foods, which inhibit phlegm growth and excess tissue formation.

Nutritious foods: grains, fruits, milk, dairy products, nuts, fats and starchy vegetables, such as potatoes.

Cleansing food: All vegetables except lemon and rajashik or tamashik.

Drinking and eating: Drinking a glass of warm water or water at room temperature half an hour before meals and during meals is beneficial. More than that will weaken Agni. After eating, wait at least 1 hour before consuming drinks, so that Agni is not weakened or phlegm increases.

Origin: Local food that is fresh and seasoned is the best choice instead of imported food.

Timing: In fact, the season, what time of day and what time of your life is the best time to eat any food will tell you everything. Example: In winter, food should be rich and nutritious; In summer, mild and cool. Make lunch your biggest meal.

Quality: Foods are generally organic, fresh and should be selected according to their taste, amount of heating or cooling, digestibility and effect on dosha. Avoid processed foods and pre-packaged foods.

Quantity: Do not eat too much or too little. Keep your stomach one third solid food, one third liquid and one third empty.
